A group of ten found guilty of digital abuse against Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has found guilty ten people for perpetrating the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the wife of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced accusations of circulating untruths regarding her sex and sexual orientation, in addition to making defamatory statements about the pair's significant age difference.
The court delivered conditional custodial sentences of as much as eight months to the defendants. The full ruling has still to be made public.
A longstanding conspiracy theory suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has spread widely since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This recent ruling in France comes as the Macrons pursuing a libel case in the US against political commentator Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted similar conspiracy theories about the French president's wife's identity.
Their legal filing contends that Owens disregarded any factual proof disproving her claim in favour of platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has often echoed these claims on her show and online platforms, and in March 2024 declared that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her belief that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her now-husband when she was a teacher at his high school.
The couple entered into matrimony in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was 54.
